How Long Do Clonazepam Withdrawal Symptoms Last?

Klonopin withdrawal symptoms can last for a long time.  For an example, if you go cold turkey, it could last anywhere up to three to even seven years.  In minority of cases, it could last for a couple months.  However, the norm from the cases I read when one goes cold turkey is probably a couple of years.

I will advise everyone not to go cold turkey.  Taper off the medication is really the way to go - and even then - you will experience a lot of withdrawal side effects that will really cause you a lot of problems.  Short term memory loss, disorientation, IBS, anxiety - the list can go on.  You really need to talk to your doctor first.

With my own personal experience, I usually tapered off the Klonopin about .25 mg every three to four weeks.  Sometimes, that was way to fast for me.  Other times, it got so bad, that I had to go back to the original amount.  For me, disorientation was my main symptom.  Some how, I just learned to live with the thing.

Getting back to the point, lets say that you were taking 3 mgs of Klonopin per day.  One mg in the morning, another at lunch and a third at bedtime.  I would suggest that you buy a pill cutter and slice off .25 mg.  See how it goes.  If that is to much, then just shave a little bit off the pill each time you take it - until you think you can handle .25 mg drop.  Keep doing this until you get down to virtually 0 mg.  You will see that the closer you get to taking none, the tougher it will be.  SO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR TIME.  This is why it usually takes the average person a few months to a couple years to get off the crap totally.

There was a doctor that I found on Youtube when I was researching Klonopin withdrawal duration - she state that people have been on benzos (Xanax, Klonopin etc) for years - now they are in such a hurry to get off the medication.  She said that one should not be in a hurry.  So I echo her warnings.  Don't be in a hurry.  Just take your time.  If you can't taper off .25 mg - then don't worry about it.  Maybe do it for one dosage, but the next dosage, go back to your normal dose amount.

I will close here by saying that I am not a doctor and really have placed this based on the cases I have read and also through my own experience as well.  Please contact your doctor for what is right for you.  In the mean time, take good care of yourself and remember - NEVER GO COLD TURKEY!  IT WILL HURT YOU MORE IN THE END.
